Supporting Novices in Ultrasound-Based Carotid Screening through AI Guidance

Purpose:

The purpose of this project is to explore how AI can guide, train, and support novices in performing ultrasound scans for early detection of carotid stenosis outside traditional clinical environments. Through a collaboration between computer science and neurology, the project will develop a high‑fidelity prototype using a handheld ultrasound device and evaluate its usability in real‑world pharmacy settings. The results will advance understanding of AI‑assisted self‑scanning, improve patient follow‑up after hospital discharge, and contribute to more accessible, preventative healthcare.
