Last modified: 11.11.2020

The Robotics & Automation Group from Aalborg University, SEMCO Maritime, Zevit, MMSurvey, Energy Cluster Denmark and offshore testing partner Global Tech One have won the "Product Innovation of the Year” award at the 9th German Renewables Award 2020.

The project received the “Product innovation of the year” award, where the Robotics & Automation Group research AI and Deep Learning models for semantic segmentation in order to detect corrosion on critical structures. The research is a core component in the automatic corrosion detection process on offshore platforms together with SEMCO Maritime. The output from the models is used in a bigger pipeline for automatic corrosion management software for the offshore industry.

Associate Professor Simon Bøgh is leading the AI research and working close together with Research Assistant Andreea-Emilia Ciontos who is bringing her expertise in Deep Learning and Computer Vision into the project.
